The YMCA is for people of all ages, abilities and incomes. We offer a variety of active adult programs including group exercise classes, aquatic fitness classes, games and social opportunities, medically based classes, and day and multi-day trips. Our programs allow older adults to remain active and grow in spirit, mind and body.

Travel with us to the Mountains of Charlottesville and enjoy lunch at Michie Tavern and a trip to Carter Mountain Orchard.
Cost is $36 and includes travel, lunch, orchard history talk, apple cider/coffee and an apple cider donut. If you pick or purchase goods from the orchard that will be at your own cost.

EXERCISE PROGRAMS
The Midlothian Family YMCA offers the following programs for Active Adults 50+ and older:

Silver Sneakers 
New mild strength programs for the Adults 50+. For more information, contact Wellness Director William Thornton 379-5668 ext. 158.

Back to Basics
A land fitness class that includes a cardiovascular workout and strength exercises. This class is conducted at a low-moderate intensity. The music is softer and the movements are a little less intense than our traditional classes. Music includes big band, classical, light rock, latin, swing, and country.

Chair Yoga
Experience the relaxation of yoga. Class includes stretching and strengthening while sitting in a chair and may include mat work. Class is appropriate for persons who want a gentle workout.

Aqua Arthritis
A gentle movement class for persons with arthritis or other joint limitations. Class concentrates on improving range of motion and strengthening muscles to improve functional fitness. It is appropriate for individuals who need a non-impact fitness class.

Aquacise\A-Strides
A moderate intensity water fitness class that focuses on improving cardiovascular fitness and strengthening muscles. It also includes stretching before and after class.

SOCIAL PROGRAMS

             Active Adult Games 2010
             
Can you feel the excitement of another highly anticipated Active Adult Games? Don't miss out on the friendly competition; you could 
              walk out with a Gold, Silver, or Bronze Medal! The Games Begin- Tuesday, October 5th and run through Thursday, October 7th. 
              Sign-up to compete in games like Bocce and Ladder Ball, Wii Bowling, Mini Golf, Canasta, Shuffleboard, and Air Hockey. 
              Cost: $15/ Facility Members and $20/ Community and Non-Members
              Includes: Lunch each day and an AWESOME T-Shirt!
              Registration: August 1st - September 24th

Beginner Bridge Classes

Meets Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m - 12:00 p.m in the Activity Center. This class is designed for complete beginners, learn the skills to be the BEST! Classes are free and open to Community and Facility Members. If you would like to sign-up contact Elizabeth Pattison at (804) 379-5668.

Monthly Luncheons
A monthly covered dish luncheon for YMCA Active Adults and their guests on the fourth Thursday of every month at 12:00 p.m. Please bring a covered dish to share (enough for 6+). It is a great way to meet other Active Adults and enjoy a fun and educational program. Sign-up monthly in the Activity Center.

Canasta
Meets Mondays at 12:30 p.m. and is open to YMCA Active Adults. These socials are intended for persons with previous play experience. Instruction for new players is available. Please arrive by 12:15pm to ensure adequate playing time.

Brown Bag Lunch & a Movie 
Bring your lunch, plop down on the couch, relax and enjoy the movie! The second Thursday of each month join us for a movie at 12:00pm in the Activity Center. Come watch some old time favorites mixed in with some new classics. See Active Adult Schedule for movie title and date.  

BINGO
Have fun and win prizes! Join us for BINGO fun at the YMCA. The first and third Friday of each month at 11:00am in the Activity Center. Cost is $1.00 per BINGO card. Who will get the chance to yell BINGO? Come and see, it may just be you! 

Literary Roundtable (Book Club)
Meets the second Tuesday of each month at 12:30 p.m. Members choose, read, and review their selections. (Book Club does not meet the month of August)

Volunteer Opportunities
We are looking for Active Adults who can give a few hours a month to our YMCA. From child care to older adults there are opportunities to share your time and skills with others.
